Senior Year SAT

I’m deciding whether to take the SAT again on October 6 or on November 3. I lean toward October 6, simply because it’s earlier.

I’m of the foolish notion that I’m going to try to raise both my Critical Reading and Mathematics scores with this test. My writing section was pretty wonderful, so I don’t think it can go much higher.

Thoughts?

  • I’m taking the Oct 6 one to try to raise my 660 Writing to a 710+ & 720 Math to a 770+ (for a grand total of 2200+!!!)

I say Oct 6 b/c, like you said, it’s earlier; you’ll have your score to send with applications. Also, remember to send in the sheet as soon as school starts (I’m filling it out during Lunch, then mailing it once I get home) or they’ll charge you a late deadline fee or even reject you w/o refund.

  • October 6 would be better because it is earlier, and better if you’re interested in applying early action and that sort of thing. November 3 would be good if you were interested on more time to get in some last minute practice. All things considered, you’ve done very well and are likely to only improve, so I would suggest 10/6 if you’ll be applying early. If you’re applying regular decision, however, then I suppose all in all it may not really matter. :)

  • Did you take the ACT? I took both, got a 1300(710 R 590 M) on the SAT and a 32 composite on the ACT. The thing is, according to this conversion chart, my SAT score should be 1420.

I’m pretty sure writing doesn’t matter. I’ve gone to a few presentations by admissions officers, and they’ve said it’ll be a few more years before they start comparing the writing. It does vary, tho, so be sure to check each individual school.

  • Michael, lofty goal. I register online rather than on paper, easier.

Christine, yeah, October’s for me. You laid out the argument perfectly.

Chris, I didn’t. I only have myself to blame for that. Writing doesn’t matter at all, but I’m proud of my writing score nonetheless.

Here are my scores, for those of you keeping score:
    M: 680
    R: 680
    W: 730

    So I’m working with a 1360, basically.
