Common Application Additional Info

Include any additional information that you would like to provide… The file cannot exceed 500 KB in size and should be in .doc, .wpd, .rtf, .xls, .pdf, or .txt format.

Does anyone know of any strategies to get the most out of the Additional Info box of the Common Application online form? Would you put a résumé there, something else, or nothing at all? I feel that a one-page high school résumé PDF is appropriate, but would love to stand corrected.

Well, since the supplements and letters of recommendation are submitted separately, I do not know WHAT could go there.

I believe that was where I explained what Summer Scholars and the Honors Program were, and put my AP exam score. As I recall it was just a text box and I didn’t do any fancy formatting or anything. Mrs. Williams recommended the resume idea to me but I decided not to do it because it was just rehashing things I’d already said (activities and whatnot). If there’s a lot you want to put that didn’t fit in the activities section a resume format might be worthwhile.

Kim, it is a text box, with an option of uploading a file (likely a new feature).

I was old school last year and filled out only paper applications, but admissions officers always referred to those sections in terms of putting them to use the way Kim did. They’re good for explaining stuff about yourself that the application does not allott for anywhere else.

This is a little bit of a more negative use for them I guess, but from what I’ve heard students sometimes provide explnations in those boxes for any weaknesses in their transcripts and such.

So yeah, a good place to add a little lib to your app. Because students can put any variety of stuff in those boxes, the attachment feature is probably just there if you feel the need to attach some sort of file with more information about yourself.

By the way, have any of your apps asked for pictures? A couple of mine did and I thought that was creepy weird.

    Kim, they haven’t yet. Yet.

I’ve been told, by a school principal I sought advice from, to attach my résumé to the form. I trust his or her authority. It can’t hurt, I suppose.

On my résumé I elaborated on the various programs I participated in through high school, but I think I’ll elect to craft a document explaining those programs in more detail, while also throwing up the résumé.

I will include a list of ALL standardized test scores (NY Regents, SAT, SATII, AP) I took 7 SATIIs so far, 1 more than they provide room for. I will also include my other extracurriculars, mostly small things, like the Calc classes I taught, Order of the Arrow, Club Nerd, my involvement in the musical, along with special talents (Spanish, JAVA)
