We’re Good

Matt and I have nailed the Dover DJ business. Friday night’s gig was perfect; all remaining issues with our setup have been resolved. Pre-cuing works flawlessly with Djay 2 and Mac OS X Leopard, and our speaker setup was enhanced by removing our oldest speakers, allowing the better speakers to be louder.

Another DJ Gig

January 11.

I love this job.

DJ Gig

Matt and I have got ourselves another DJ gig in town, on December 14th. Since the last time I’ve DJ’d, I’ve got some upgrades to my setup:

I’m really excited. It should be a fun time.

DJ Woes

Last night, Matt (co-DJ) and I had our second gig. Everything went well, despite massive problems. The speakers were finicky again, and I couldn’t get my ad-hoc pre-cueing setup to work.

Pre-cueing is the use of multiple sound devices in order to listen to an upcoming track while the ‘main’ track plays for the crowd. That lets one makes smooth transitions between tracks. A computer’s sound card needs to support multiple tracks of audio in order for pre-cuing to work. I Was a DJ

Last night went wonderfully for Matt and I, co-Dover-DJs. There was a moment of panic when I thought we didn’t have enough music, and another when the speakers were a little finicky. Both issues were eventually non-issues, and most everyone was happy, including me.

Shout-out to stereo equipment from the 70’s, auxiliary speakers from the 90’s, and a MacBook Pro from 2006. [Edit: Additional shout-out to Exposay member J-Rizzle for her help!]

Listen Up!

When someone needs help, I try to come to the rescue. The local SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions) chapter in Dover needs a DJ for a middle school dance this Friday, so I offered my limited services. With my friend Matt’s speakers, I’ll be attempting to provide tunes for a bunch of seventh and eighth grade students in less than two days.

Anyone have tips? What’s hip? Also, what’s my DJ name?
