I’m very critical of Microsoft. I don’t like the company’s operating systems or business tactics. Oddly, Microsoft is up to no good recently. Here we go.

WorldWide Telescope

Here’s some copy from the WorldWide Telescope website:

The WorldWide Telescope (WWT) is a rich visualization environment that functions as a virtual telescope, bringing together imagery from the best ground and space telescopes in the world for a seamless, guided exploration of the universe.

WorldWide Telescope, created with Microsoft’s high-performance Visual Experience Engineā„¢, enables seamless panning and zooming across the night sky blending terabytes of images, data, and stories from multiple sources over the Internet into a media-rich, immersive experience.

Although WorldWide Telescope is only for Windows, I’m very excited about the application.

Singularity

Singularity is a research operating system with its source released. It’s not open source, but it’s a step. I look forward to playing with this software in the future.

I think everyone shares in my hope that Microsoft keeps making moves like these.
